Breast Implants

Rhode Island Breast Implant Doctor

Breast augmentation in Rhode Island is an operation to increase the size of the breasts. This is usually achieved by placing an artificial implant under the skin or muscle of the chest.

Aesthetic or cosmetic reasons for breast enlargement include:

  • Feeling that the breasts are simply too small or out of proportion
  • Loss of breast volume after pregnancy
  • Difference in size between the two breasts
  • Breast size that has reduced after losing weight

Rhode Island Breast Implant Doctors typically do surgery under general anesthetic and is performed as a day case, without the need for an overnight stay in hospital.  Breast implants are usually made from silicone or are saline-filled.

Breast Augmentation

The implant is inserted through incisions on or near the breasts. The exact position of the incision varies, but can be in the crease under the breast or around the nipple.  After making the incision, the Providence Plastic surgeon makes a small space into which the implant is placed. This pocket is beneath the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. The incision is closed with stitches that are internal and absorbable to minimize scarring, and bandages or dressings are applied over the wound. The procedure usually takes between one and two hours.  Breast Lifts can also be performed with an augmentation to enhance the shape of the bust line.

During your consultation Rhode Island Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Polacek will review your treatment options for breast implant surgery, including pros and cons of each procedure, potential risks and complications, recovery course, pre and post operative instructions, and aesthetic outcomes.

Breast Augmentation

Not everyone is a candidate for breast implant surgery in Rhode Island. Patients who smoke, take medications or have certain medical conditions such as heart disease, blood clotting problems, diabetes or the tendency to form excessive scars should discuss potential risks with their Providence, Rhode Island, Cosmetic Surgeon.  Additionally, in patients over 30, a mammogram should be considered.

Prior to all procedures, Aspirin and Anti Inflammatory drugs should be avoided.
