Breast Reductions

Rhode Island Breast Reduction Surgeon

Breast reduction surgery in Rhode Island is intended to relieve the physical discomfort often associated with very large breasts and ultimately will enhance the overall appearance of your breasts. The surgery will make your breasts not only smaller, but firmer.  At the Polacek Center our Rhode Island Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Lori Polacek is experienced and highly skilled in these procedures.

Rhode Island Breast reduction can make a positive and dramatic change in the appearance of most women making them feel very pleased with the results. In fact, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, "the level of patient satisfaction resulting from breast reduction is among the highest of any plastic surgery procedure."  The right choice of a Rhode Island plastic surgeon is critical as Breast Reduction surgery involves removing excess breast tissue, fat and skin, making breasts smaller and firmer. The areola (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple) may be reduced and repositioned.

Breast Reduction

After the Rhode Island cosmetic surgeon has removed excess breast tissues, the nipple and areola are shifted to a higher position. The areola, which in large breasts usually has been stretched, also is reduced in size. Skin that was formerly located above the nipple is brought down and together to reshape the breast. Liposuction may be used to improve the contour under the arm.

Rhode Island Cosmetic surgeon, Dr Lori Polacek uses a vertical scar technique, to minimize scarring and help ensure a round shape post-surgery.  Dr. Polacek performs what is also known as a "lolipop incision" to the breast, resulting in the least amount of scarring. There are no horizontal incisions, and the scars are less likely to broaden with time, as with the Anchor-shaped technique. This technique keeps its results the best in the long term.

The incisions will heal and fade over time. It is important to realize, however, that the incision lines will be permanently visible, more so in some individuals than others. Fortunately, the majority of the time, the incisions for breast reduction are in locations easily concealed by clothing, even with low-cut necklines.

Not everyone is a candidate for breast reduction surgery in Rhode Island. Patients who smoke, take medications or have certain medical conditions such as heart disease, blood clotting problems, diabetes or the tendency to form excessive scars should discuss potential risks with their surgeons.  Additionally, in patients over 30, a mammogram should be considered.

During your consultation Rhode Island Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr. Polacek will review your treatment options for breast reduction surgery in Rhode Island, including pros and cons of each procedure, potential risks and complications, recovery course, pre and post operative instructions, and esthetic outcomes.

Prior to all procedures, Aspirin and Anti Inflammatory drugs should be avoided.
