Rhode Island Eye Lift Doctor

Blepharoplasty (also known as eyelid surgery) can have surprisingly beneficial results for men and women whose eyes look tired and lifeless because of sagging upper eyelids or bags under the lower eyelids. Removing the bags and sags of your eyelids can reveal bright, clear eyes that have been concealed too long by excess skin and fat tissue. At the Polacek Center for Plastic Surgery, Rhode Island cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Lori Polacek can discuss the proper surgery or technique to insure the outcome you’re looking for.

At our Rhode Island cosmetic surgery offices, eyelid lift procedures are performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation so you will sleep through the procedure and be able to return home the same day. The procedure typically takes between one to two hours depending on the amount of tissue to be removed and whether both the upper and lower eyelids are being lifted and can be combined with a brow lift for even better results.

Your eyes may feel tight for a day or two and any discomfort (which is usually minimal) can be relieved with medication. You will need to sleep with your head elevated for a night or two to reduce any swelling. Using a cold compress during the day will also help reduce any swelling. You may experience blurred vision for a few days.

Bruising and swelling will dissipate in about 10 days. You will need to avoid activities that cause dryness or irritation to your eyes, including wearing contact lenses. You may find that your eyes are sensitive to light for the first week, which is normal.

You will be able to return to light activities within a few days. Many Rhode Island eyelift patients choose to wait until their stitches are removed before returning to work.

During your consultation Rhode Island Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Polacek will review your treatment options for eye surgery, including pros and cons of each procedure, potential risks and complications, recovery course, pre and post operative instructions, and esthetic outcomes.

Not everyone is a candidate for eyelift surgery in Rhode Island. Patients who smoke, take medications or have certain medical conditions such as heart disease, blood clotting problems, diabetes or the tendency to form excessive scars should discuss potential risks with their surgeons.

Prior to all procedures, Aspirin and Anti Inflammatory drugs should be avoided.
